How to reach the pre-Nuragic altar of Monte d'Accoddi from Sassari, Porto Torres, or Alghero — featuring the correct turn-off that GPS apps always miss.
Monte d'Accoddi sits 11 km north of Sassari, just off the former SS131 (now renamed Strada dei Due Mari). From Sassari, head north on the SS131 toward Porto Torres. After approximately 10 km, look for the brown road signs marked 'Monte d'Accoddi' — the turn-off is onto the unpaved Strada Vicinale Monte d'Accoddi. Warning: Google Maps and Waze often route visitors to a private farmhouse 800 m past the actual entrance. Trust the physical brown signs, not the GPS pin. The gravel access road is 600 m long; drive slowly. A free unpaved parking lot with 25 spaces is available at the ticket office. Coming from Alghero, take the SS291 eastbound to Sassari (35 min), then follow the SS131 north. From Porto Torres, drive south on the SS131 for 15 minutes — the site is on your right.
ARST Linea 719 (Sassari → Porto Torres / Stintino) runs hourly from Via Padre Zirano in Sassari. Ask the driver for the 'Monte d'Accoddi' stop — the bus halts directly at the site gate. Fare is €1.00–€2.00 one-way; the ride takes about 15 minutes. Important: Do not take local ATP urban lines (Linea OT or Linea MP). These drop passengers along the high-speed road SS131 with no safe pedestrian crossing, making walking to the site extremely dangerous.
