Cavalcata Sarda

A massive festival in Sassari (11 km from Monte d'Accoddi) featuring a parade of over 3,000 participants from all over Sardinia wearing traditional folk costumes. The event includes spectacular horse-riding stunts (pariglie) and traditional tenores singing. It is a very traditonal festival which the ancient mound is what they climb up.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The morning parade starts at 09:00. Grandstand tickets cost €10.00 (~$10.90) to €15.00 (~$16.35), but standing along the streets is free and offers the best close-up photos.
Pentecost Weekend

Festha Manna

πŸ“ Porto Torres

A major religious and historical celebration honoring the patron martyrs of Porto Torres. It features coastal boat processions, horse races, and outdoor music concerts along the harbor. It is a deep archaeologcal and cultural experience.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The boat procession departs from the port at 17:00. The evening concerts are free. Fares for local transport from Sassari range from €2.00 (~$2.18) to €3.00 (~$3.27).

Discesa dei Candelieri

πŸ“ Sassari Old Town

An ancient guild procession recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Guild members carry giant wooden columns representing candles, dancing through the narrow streets to the sound of drums and flutes.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: The event is extremely crowded. Finding a spot along Corso Vittorio Emanuele is best by 17:00. Bring a folding fan and plenty of water as Sassari is very hot in August.
June 20th–21st

Solstice Archaeoastronomy Nights

πŸ“ Monte d'Accoddi Pyramid

Special night openings of the prehistoric monument organized by archaeologists and astronomical societies. Visitors can observe the stars from the top of the stepped pyramid using professional telescopes, learning about the ancient solar alignments of the site.

πŸ’‘ Visitor Tip: Tickets cost €5.00 (~$5.45) and must be booked in advance on the municipal portal. The site gets chilly after dark, so bring a light jacket.

Sardinian Sagre & Folklore

A sagra is a traditional food festival celebrating local agricultural products, seafood, or wine. These festivals are the heart of Sardinian village life. Visitors are treated to long tables set up in the central squares, where local volunteers serve hand-prepared regional delicacies at very affordable rates.

Solstice Nights

Astronomical alignment openings occur annually around June 20-21. These night openings feature special stargazing workshops and lectures led by local experts in prehistory.
